A Mobile Application that Inspires Creators in the Form of a Solitaire
UX & UI Designer | March 2016 - November 2016
The Origin of This Application
A roommate in my college was very passionate about illustrations, but often because there was no inspiration to create creative power, she also joined the illustration creation team which included 600 people, where everyone will communicate and supervise each other.
So I started thinking about whether I could make a product to help them find inspiration and create it smoothly.
User Research
Through the analysis of conversations with 19 interviewees (they are illustrators or illustration amateurs), we knew their common process of practicing drawing. Finally, we found three stages.

According to the information we collected, I put forward a questionnaire to verify it. Besides, we found the websites illustrators often used and asked to help us conduct the survey. Through the analysis of results, we extracted functions needed by illustrators.

Solution
We often find that there are many words or pictures left by the previous students on the desk of the classroom. Many people like to leave their own creations where others have written or painted. I think this is a very interesting phenomenon, and it could be the way to let people create together which may help them find some inspirations.

Scenario of Use

I am a beginner of painting and have no time to systematically train, so the painting skill is not very good.
——Mark, IT worker
The joint creation module allows participants and sponsors to create the same picture together. Beginners can copy and create the sponsor‘s work and improve their drawing skills.

——Stephen, amateur illustrator
I have a taste of being unable to create because I have no inspiration.
A creative piece in the form of Solitaire is designed for them, where they need to provide the first drawing board, then create it by different people and get a series of different stories.
Mode 1

Mary saw an unfinished "storm"
She created a new idea and added it
Lily did not feel perfect seeing the storm, so she added something

Workflow & Wireframing

In the process of making the prototype map, we conducted a questionnaire survey again. Regarding whether the concept of Solitaire can be accepted, 52.48% of the people think that the idea is very interesting and want to try, 34.65% will be willing to look at it. At the same time, there are 3 users who can carry out multi-line storms. For example, a picture can be MODE1 or can accommodate MODE2.
Based on this idea, we have improved the wireframe

Hi-fi Interfaces
Painting interfaces
When the author creates the first artboard, it can be defined as multi-line or single-line. At the same time, different brushes bring different strokes to meet the different needs of the artist. You can also add additional brushes as needed, or you can insert text on the screen.

Browse or participate interfaces
In this interface, users can see the development of each storm and decide whether to participate in the storm. In the upper right corner you can see the branch storms, they are ranked according to popularity. At the same time, click on the author's avatar to chat with him/her to get more accurate storm information, which is also beneficial for creation.

Home and my interface
The homepage is a popular piece of work that can bring enthusiasm to the creators and at the same time draw more creative inspiration. In my interface, I can track the storms I have participated in, and the authors who are followed will also be shown.

User testing
After completing the design, we found five users who have used our products and conducted a focus group. During the discussion, we summarized some issues.

There are many limitations in the process of painting, the pictures drawn will be rough and can not be meticulously detailed. This is very unfavorable for the expression of the picture.
——Yue, product design student
Copyright can't be guaranteed in the mode of co-creating a painting, because this model must allow users to re-create after downloading the original work.

For the second question, we believe that copyright issues can be controlled by limiting the time period in which the participants have the original author's paintings. For example, after 15 days of storage, the original author's paintings will be automatically cleared.
